Commencement Weekend: May 16-17

Book your lodging early.

Most hotels in the Champaign-Urbana area begin taking reservations for Commencement Weekend very early and are usually completely booked by the December prior. The Champaign County Economic Development Corporation operates a hotel/motel clearinghouse at 800/554-7270 that may be able to assist with accommodations.

Important Commencment Mailings

The Commencement Guide to Activities is a booklet sent to eligible graduates and candidates. It contains a listing of Commencement Weekend activities, ceremony participation procedures, cap and gown rental information, and more. The Guide will be mailed in mid-March to students who place their names on the Degree Pending List at the time of Spring 2009 registration or who graduate in August 2008, October 2008 or December 2008. If you are an August 2008, October 2008 or December 2008 graduate who plans to participate in the May 2009 ceremony, make sure your permanent mailing address on your student record is current.

Academic Attire

Watch for important cap and gown information on this web site in December. The UI has contracted with Herff Jones, Inc. to provide custom regalia for UI graduates. You will only be charged for your cap and gown rental if it is picked up prior to the ceremony. Be sure you place your order prior to the deadline.
